CAT | Vidja Games
Interesting fact: I spend about 10x more time READING about video games then I do actually PLAYING them. True story. I spend a lot of time at various gaming blogs (kotaku.com, joystiq.com, destructoid.com) and lurking in video game forums (mostly neogaf.com).
It is with great anticipation every month that I wait for the latest monthly NPD sales data to be released. The numbers, they are interesting, but the analysis of said numbers by hordes of gaming folk is always a pleasant read. As is the post-NPD press releases from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.
This month, friends, the hardware numbers are… interesting, to say the least. CHECK IT:
Nintendo DS 485,000
Wii 335,000
PlayStation 2 295,000
Xbox 360 228,000
PlayStation Portable 176,000
Game Boy Advance 136,000
PlayStation 3 127,000
GameCube 24,000
Xbox 480
If you remove the GameCube and XBox, two systems that are effectively dead, the PlayStation 3 is last. The XBox 360 is beating it handily, selling over 100,000 additional units. And the Wii, well, it’s still clipping along at an incredible pace. I’m surprised that the PlayStation 2 is still selling as well as it is. With it being as cheap as it is, with such an incredible library of games, I imagine it will continue to sell better then the PS3 for at least another few months. I’m probably going to be playing mine at some point this month, with God of War II being released. First one was great, 2nd one is supposed to be even better. Need to… find time…
Oh, and the DS is still destroying everything. But what else is new.
Check out the neogaf.com thread here for some interesting forum commentary. I don’t promise elegance, but it’s always good for a laugh.
Gold, friends… GOLD!!
Why do you taunt me with your awesomeness MONTHS before I’ll ever get to play you?
This whole mini-planet thing reminds me of The Little Prince cartoon from TVOntario back in the day.
The Little Prince, in outer space, can catch a shooting star and sail away. Perhaps one day, he’ll come your way!
I will track down the theme song and post it on here one day.
This morning, as I was going through my Google Reader list, I read Jordie Gomez’s post about Supreme Commander and how he has grown to enjoy it. I thought to myself ‘I’ll comment on that bad boy later today’ because I, too, enjoy that game. We had a mini-LAN on Saturday at the Casa Del Gomez, and I would say Supreme Commander was a surprise success. We started playing around midnight, and it brought us straight to 4:30 AM. Mega base building FTW!
ANYWAYS, I went to his site this afternoon and the post wasn’t there! Where’d it go!? I checked Google Reader again, and the contents were still in there, so what gives?! How can I comment on posts when they just disappear?!
Here is an excerpt from his post:
Alright, I admit it, Supreme Commander is growing on me like a beautiful mustache of large scale real time strategy. After getting the full version and updating my DirectX (it claims to require the December build) things started running decent on medium settings (the water still looks amazing). Big maps are still a problem but I look forward to the future when I have a fast dual core Vista comp and I can fully enjoy the RTS insanity of this game. I feel like a fool for coming down so hard on it initially, but I think a lot of my beta beefs were solved in the final copy.
I guess I’ll just leave my comment here:
Indeed, Supreme Commander is fantastic. I watched your video, and was moved to tears.
I can’t wait to LAN this one up again. Also, Command and Conquer 3 demo on Friday. Can you handle it?!
I don’t usually play the single player campaigns in RTSes, but have you seen the cast for this game??
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848263/The next LAN will be ‘off the hook’.

I saw the title of this game, Boom Boom Rocket, and I immediately thought to myself ‘a new Chu Chu Rocket?!’. Sadly, not the case, friends.
Bizarre Talks More Boom Boom Rocket
I sure did like Chu Chu Rocket. I’d love to see a Wii remake. If you want to talk about games that were MADE for the Wii’s pointer capabilities, Chu Chu Rocket would be near the top of that fine list.

I watched this video on YouTube and found it interesting. Word is that Sega asked Michael Jackson to compose music for Sonic 3. When he started giving the underage game testers funny looks, they made him leave and they replaced the music. But! Some of the songs sound remarkably like Michael Jackson tunes. Watch… and decide for yourself…
I always liked that Carnival Zone music.
Keith at work would tell me stories about the bugginess of Saints Row for the XBox 360. He never sang about it, though.
So good!
Looks like there’s new virtual console games on the Wii. Some of the new additions are must-buys-if-you-can’t-already-play-them-on-the-XBox. Like Toejam and Earl for the Genesis! And Gunstar Heroes! Jordan, he loves his Gunstar Heroes. I wouldn’t be surprised if he bought it just to play it on the Wii
I saw this on Kotaku this morning, laughs were shared with all of those around me (the cats). So, I embed on my blog for you to watch (if it appears as just a white box, click it and it should start up):
And the second part:
