Mandie and I went to the Westmount VI last night to watch ‘Pirates of the Carbean III: Coffee Lust’ , and were pleasantly surprised to see that they were rocking the cheap Tuesday tickets. I had no idea!
So, we got to watch the movie for around $8. Hot damn, I hear you say. Watch your mouth, I reply. Then everything gets out of hand and next thing you know there’s blood all over the blog post and nobody wins.
I head over to tribute.ca to check out what was playing this evening at Rainbow Cinemas. Imagine my shock (!!) when I saw that they were playing Casino Royale, Borat and other recent fare. I checked their website, and their price is now $7.50! Check it out for yourselves. It’s a sad day indeed.
I guess that would make the Huron Market Place the cheapest place to watch a movie in L-town. And it looks like they have stopped playing first-run films! Their selection this weekend includes Employee of the Month, Man of the Year, and the Trailer Park Boys movie.
You think you know a town. Sheesh.
Mandie and I made the drive out to Mississauga today to go watch The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. The movie is high on Mandie’s all-time favourites list, and when she heard it was coming back to theatres, in 3D none-the-less, she made sure it would be viewed.
On the technical side, this was by far the best 3D movie-watching experience ever. The glasses that you have to wear are actually given to you, wrapped in plastic. The lenses aren’t all gunged up like the IMAX 3D glasses are, so the picture is super clear. It was also being shown via a digital projector, so the picture on the screen was crispy.
The whole movie was in 3D, which suprised me. It must’ve taken forever to convert the original into 3D, but what do I know. They didn’t go overboard with the 3D effects, thankfully. I didn’t need random crap flying in my face.
What they did was really well done, and made an already great movie even better.

We went to go watch Little Miss Sunshine last night, since it just arrived @ SilverCity here in London-town. I haven’t enjoyed a movie so much in a long time, let me tell you! It was hilarious, insightful, touching and most of all, sandwiches. If anyone wants to go see it, I’d be up for watching it again.
The soundtrack to the movie is also fantastic. I went OiNK-crazy and downloaded not only the soundtrack, but a whole load of DeVotchKa as well. That DeVotchKa is quaaaaality. I should start up my own BitTorrent tracker and post some of this stuff
.
We went all out last night and took a trip to Mississaugga to watch Superman Returns in 3D at the IMAX. It’s a good thing the movie was fan-frickin’-tastic, because we didn’t get to bed until 4:30 in the morning.
Although there were only select scenes in the movie presented in 3D, the extra $4 for the IMAX experience was definately worth it. The crazy laser show they put on before the movie was worth the $4 alone
. And it looks like the cost of converting the selected scenes into 3D is really paying off for IMAX, with records being ‘smashed‘ and whatnot.
It’s strange that not all IMAX theatres support 3D. I don’t believe the one in London did. Speaking of the London IMAX, having it at the Western Fair was a horrible idea. If that theatre was attached to a normal theatre like Silver City, maybe people would’ve gone. Nobody wants to drive down Crap St. just to watch movies on a bigger screen. Nobody but THIS GUY:
Is he a peasant, or a pirate?? Nobody knows.
If only I would’ve watched this video before I went to see X3, maybe things would’ve been different. Maybe I would’ve started laughing uncontrollably when Juggernaut said ‘I’m the Juggernaut, bitch’ and continued to laugh until the end of the movie. I would’ve left the theatre, wiping the tears from my eyes, still chuckling, with only positive memories of the film. *sigh*… if only…
I am glad that the U.S. has finally discovered that the only true way to heal the wounds left by September 11th is a large dose of some Nick Cage lovin’. A lot of people told Oliver Stone ‘It’s too soon… the country isn’t ready for that much Nicholas Cage’ but my boy Olly stuck to his guns. The early word is that it’s basically The Joy Luck Club 2, but without so many Asians. To that I say ‘Nicholas Cage does the work of 10 Asians, and for less money!’, to which you should reply ‘That statement is completely baseless’ but by the time you finish, I have already ran away.
